What you should be listening to this week:
CHVRCHES – Recover
Everyone must know who CHVRCHES are by now. They have been named number 5 in the BBC Sound of 2013 poll and have been storming the internet ever since. Their track ‘The Mother We Share’ is 3 minutes, 10 seconds of synth pop glory, and their newest release ‘Recover’ is dare we say, even better?! CHVRCHES are fresh, current and unique and make me feel proud to be Scottish! They are currently causing a craze in America, playing various sold out SXSW shows! This is one band I need to see live at least once this year. Recover is available to buy on iTunes now.
Rudimental – Hell Could Freeze (feat. Angel Haze)
Honestly, Rudimental are an act I’ve never really caught on to, until now. The Hackney duo have teamed up with New York rapper (and another one to watch) Angel Haze, who has taken time out from her on-going beef with Azealia Banks, to throw down some smooth vocals and a filthy rap on this track ‘Hell Could Freeze’ Rudimental’s soulful beats work well with Haze’s style and this track is available as a free download from Rudimental’s website.
Justin Timberlake – Suit & Tie (Aeroplane Remix)
I have always been a fan of old Trouser Snake and was exciting to see his return to music. With the hype to his first new single in 7 years getting bigger and bigger, I have to say I was disappointed when the ever so bland Suit & Tie was finally released. With the success of the follow up tune that is ’Mirrors’ it is clear that Suit & Tie was definitely the wrong choice for a first single. ANYWAY, after avoiding the boring track like the plague, I finally have a reason to listen to it! The track has been remixed by serial remixer and all round diva (he turned up 2 hours late to a show in Glasgow and demanded champagne as it’s all he drinks…)Aeroplane . Aeroplane has put his own electric disco feel on the track, and removed the unnecessary Jay-Z rap making it so much more listenable.
Disappointing Song of the Week – Beyonce – Bow Down/I Been On
This track dropped last night on Queen B’s Soundcloud and after seeing a link to it on my phone I rushed to my laptop, plugged in the speakers and cranked it…much to my disappointment. With a title like ‘Bow Down’ I was expecting much more than what sounds like a B-Side. I can only hope/pray that because of the slowed down, distorted vocals and experimental beats that this track is some sort of demo/promotion for her up-coming world tour. Hurry up and released some decent new material, B.
