Somerset House: A Mesmerising Musical Space for the Summer | TQS Magazine

Somerset House has long been at the heart of culture in London. It’s been home to the main events of London’s Fashion Week for several years, as well as putting on amazing exhibitions within the neo-classical walls of the breath-taking building, while also utilising the beautiful courtyard for ice rinks, cinemas, fountains and now music. This summer, with American Express Credit Cards, Somerset House is hosting some of the world’s finest performers in order to offer visitors an unforgettable summer evening in one of the city’s most beautiful landmarks.

Sold out shows, rave reviews, a buzzing blogosphere and wonderful moments shared together have come out of the stunning courtyard with visitors being blown away by a veritable feast for all the senses. There are still more shows to come so don’t miss out on a chance to catch your favourite act perform in a unique and exciting environment.

The proceedings this year were kicked off by South London’s own Alex Clare with support from Chloe Howl. Clare greeted a sold out audience with his inimitable brand of traditional songwriting fused with his deep love of dubstep and bebop records. This daring exploration into musical genres has seen Clare reach the top ten in both the UK and the US as well as receiving a nomination at the last Brit Awards. Truly a talent worth looking out for, Clare left the crowd with some wonderful memories and rightly received some excellent reviews.

More recently, Swedish YouTube sensations First Aid Kit graced the yard with their soulful harmonies and evocative tales of love and nature. First coming to prominence after their hugely popular covers of Fleet Foxes, First Aid Kit have since toured the world and they left a sold out Somerset House very grateful that they chose to visit London too! There would probably have been no better backdrop to enjoy their delicate melodies against. Offering a unique intimacy not often found in the city’s bigger venues, Somerset House’s grand courtyard was the perfect place for First Aid Kit to exhibit their music.

The good news is there are still plenty more performances to savour during the American Express Summer Series at Somerset House, including the likes of Goldfrapp and Basement Jaxx, who will surely rock the courtyard and perfectly soundtrack the frivolity of a summer night! American Express will be offering a live stream of the closing night so make sure you don’t miss out!
