SS13 Party Dress Trends | TQS Magazine

When it comes to picking a party dress in the winter, you could do it with your eyes shut. Clamber around the rails, feel for something sequinned or bedazzled, and chuck it on. Party dressing in the ‘party season’ is about as difficult as spotting Tavi Gevinson at a fashion show. But when it comes to the warmer months, things can get a little more challenging. Unless you’re willing to sport sleep inducing soft pastels or flowers in your print and / or hair, spring summer can feel a little, well, dry. Luckily, we’re here to help! Here’s our top three trends from the catwalk that’ll help you stand out from the crowd in this seasons party dresses:

1. Monochrome

Come on, did you see Beyonce at the Grammys? It made us wish we were colourblind, just so we could experience the world on Bey-hues for the rest of our lives. Monochrome might seem like a safe choice, but it’s a tough one to make work, and we implore you to take up the challenge. Not feeling the black when it gets warmer? All white is also a key trend this season, so you’ve two for your money but adopting this one. Mind those grass stains at the BBQ though.

2. Volume

Designers love to make our lives difficult, don’t they? Layers, thick fabric, and boxy, boyish shapes, are all forecast to be big this season. Think a softer androgyny created with wider sleeves, accentuated hips and multi-layered looks. Then think about getting down to Boots and stocking up on deodorant and wet wipes because you are going to be very, very, warm come March.

3. 60s

Twiggy. Beehives. Achingly short hem lines. The 60s are back and in a big way. Indulge in bold bright prints and don’t be afraid to be a checkerboard chick this season. And if you need some inspiration, just ask your mum to get out her old stack of photos, and have a rummage round the attic for some delicate vintage accessories that’ll really pack a fashion punch. Lovely.
