TQS StaffThe estate of Ian Fleming has signed a 10 year deal with the Random House Group to print Fleming’s 14 Bond novels and two non-fiction works in print and e-book format.
Vintage, a division of Random House, has acquired the publishing rights in place of Penguin. The first Bond novel, Casino Royale, was published by a sister imprint of Vintage, Jonathan Cape, in 1953. The books will be revamped this summer in anticipation of the big screen return of 007, currently portrayed by Daniel Craig, in Skyfall in October. Sebastian Faulks, Jeffery Deaver and John Gardner are among the officially-sanctioned authors who have written Bond novels since Fleming’s death in 1964.
With the 2012 London Olympics taking place this summer, it only seems right that one of our greatest British literary legacies is revitalised for a landmark year in Brit culture. Given the success of the Bond films, the books are often overlooked – hopefully Random House can reboot Fleming’s original stories for a new generation.
