Lady Gaga Cancels Agreement with US Retailer Target | TQS Magazine

Love her or loathe her it’s indisputable that Lady Gaga is quickly becoming a forceful gay activist. A couple of months ago I wrote about Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, or DADT for short, legislation which prevents openly gay people from serving in the military, Gaga led a rally in Maine against the campaign denouncing it as homophobic.

It was revealed today that she has ended her exclusive deal with Target, US retail giant who previously held the right to sell her upcoming album Born This Way exclusively in their stores. The breakdown comes as a result of continued affiliation and donations between Target and political movements with anti-gay views. This gay blog for one, fully supports her decision.

This move highlighting the new queen of pop’s continued support of LGBT rights comes only weeks after the release of her latest single Born This Way which is quickly being hailed as the new gay anthem.

In relation to the cancellation with Target, GaGa said:

“That discussion was one of the most intense conversations I’ve ever had in a business meeting,”

“Part of my deal with Target is that they have to start affiliating themselves with LGBT charity groups and begin to reform and make amends for the mistakes they’ve made in the past … our relationship is hinged upon their reform in the company to support the gay community and to redeem the mistakes they’ve made supporting those groups.”
