The 5 most annoying Americanisms | TQS Magazine

Ok, so they might live in the most powerful country on Earth and produce some of the best film and TV but don’t Americans just say some of the most annoying things? Inspired by the latest ad campaign by Enterprise, a US car hire service now also in the UK, making sure we get the stateside customer service to ensure customer satisfaction in the UK, we run down the 5 most annoying things Americans say:

5. Fanny pack

It wouldn’t be big or clever to make a fanny joke right now so instead we’ll just leave this picture of a chap very proud of his bum bag right here. Bet he’s American.

4. Bangs

Why is it plural? IT’S A FRINGE.

3. A half hour

This one, maybe more than all the others, reinforces the cliché that Americans sound stupid. Some of the most intelligent people in the world are American and indeed their contributions to science and technology have revolutionised the world but in the name of our sweet Lord why can’t you just say ”half an hour”? We’d even settle for 30 minutes.

2. Aloooooominum

Ok, so I think they spell it the same as we do but the way Americans say it is like nails on a chalkboard. This is one of the observations made by Enteprise’s Brad & Dave, watch the video to hear the crime against pronounciation for yourself:

1. Peanut butter and Jelly

It’s not Jelly, it’s Jam and that’s all we have to say on the matter.

What Americanism do you find the most annoying? Or are you American and have found this entire blog post insulting and would like to have your say? Eitherway, let us know in the comments below. And please, no Americanisms.
