Following the suicide of several LGBT teenagers, author/journalist Dan Savage decided enough was enough and endeavoured to try and connect with youths struggling to come to terms with their sexuality. He founded the It Gets Better Project, initially a YouTube channel with videos recounting his personal experience and assuring young LGBT people that they can have a positive future.
The channel welcomed others to contribute their own videos which people did in their hundreds, the channel was soon overloaded and the project now has its own site.
The project has been a roaring success with videos being uploaded by figures such as; Barack Obama, Google employees, Pixar, my personal favourite is the brief but passionate message from comedian Sarah Silverman:
