Dunno Y is released tomorrow after having received largely positive reviews from the fesitval circuit. The film centres around an affair between two men and it is the first time a gay kiss has ever been shown on the Indian silver screen. Perhaps unsuprisngly for such a conservative country, where homosexuality was only legalised last year, religious and political groups have condemned the film as propogating the ills of homosexuality. However, gay activists are hailing Dunno Y as the first positive representation of gay characters in Indian popular culture and are optimistic it will encourage the production of more LGBT films and TV.
