TQS StaffOwner of the three best names in existence, Snoop Dogg (yeah, he’s back, Snoop Lion didn’t last, and no-one has seen Calvin Broadus for years) appears to have transcended into living legend territory. Doggystyle is a classic, Gin and Juice is still an absolute belter on a Friday night, and that was just 1994. He was on The Chronic – in both senses I imagine – Drop It Like It’s Hot, King of The Hill, Futurama, Chapelle’s Show….sorry I’ve wandered into film and TV….WELL EXACTLY. There’s very little this Snoop Dogg cat hasn’t done in his long, illustrious and smoky career, and it might even be fair to say he’s a bit of a cultural icon. Too far? See previous paragraph.
The man, the myth, the maverick, will be bringing his particularly bizarre strain of amazing to, of all places, Cornwall. D-O-Double Gizzle is one of the headliners at the awesome Boardmasters festival in Newquay on the weekend beginning Friday 8th August. Snoop will be melting the summer air to molasses on the Saturday, and as well as him you’ll be able to catch all sorts of acts, big and small, from Duke Dumont, Peace, Bastille, Ben Pearce, the delightful Dan Croll, and other old school heroes Reel Big Fish and Roni Size. Phew.
There’ll be more surfing and BBQs than an episode of Home and Away when they’re between hostage situations and desert island strandings (actually happened) all against the glorious backdrop of Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay, in one extremely pretty and sunkissed August Newquay. Combine this with beach sessions and after parties and you’ve got a recipe for a very happy little weekend. Just make sure you chuck the suncream in kids! The tickets are selling out mighty fast, so if you want to get your hands on some then get yourself to the Boardmasters site.
There are camping packages available, and by all means camp, sure, but it is not for the faint hearted, and after a whole day on the beach who wouldn’t want a shower to wash the sand off before a bit o’ live music. We’d recommend Hotel Direct who should be able to find you a dirt cheap deal on somewhere ace to stay, and may even save you a spot of money on the overall cost. By the looks of things you might even end up with a swimming pool to add to the festival vibes! Go forth!
