You know, you wouldn’t expect Leeds to be as stylish as it is. Perhaps the city has still yet to shake off it’s stigma as a welly, flat cap and whippet hub, but we don’t mind that too much. Why? Well firstly, we’d never want to turn our back on such GLORIOUS history (and amazing fancy dress options – hello Grandad’s wardrobe), but also because it means that men’s fashion finds as brilliant as MKI Miyuki-Zoku stay hidden here for just us.
MKI (we’ll shorten it to that from now on – not going to lie, it’s a bugger to type out) resides in the beautiful surrounds of The Corn Exchange, and attracts the type of so achingly handsome and effortlessly fashionable male shopper that it hurts. A mix of street and smart, with strong nautical and military tones, it’s quality over quantity in what’s a carefully curated collection of fine menswear.
Our favourite picks? Well, that’s a toughie. Where to start? There’s the line of outwear, which shouts durability and masculinity (well, what else did you expect this far north?), or the array of pastel oxford shirts that wouldn’t go amiss in one of the city’s numerous creative agencies (or our wardrobe, just in case you’re reading Mr MKI…) We’re also massive fans of the seemingly new 1964 jumpers. One in every colour please.
If you’re still holding out for the summer, there’s a wealth of smart shorts and t-shirts to chose from. Our favourites (you know we’re suckers for a print) are the anchor and star pieces. Who say’s they’ll clash? We want the shirt, the shorts and the (pretty much sold out) bracelet too. Style, ahoy.
But the thing we love the most about this place (apart from the models on the site. Megaswoon) is that it encapsulates Leeds men’s fashion culture so bloody brilliantly. Here’s hoping it can make use some of that and take it beyond the Aire.
